So Sierra lives two lives: her life in Oregon and her life at Christmas. And leaving one always means missing the other. Until this particular Christmas, when Sierra meets Caleb, and one life eclipses the other. By reputation, Caleb is not your perfect guy: years ago, he made an enormous mistake and has been paying for it ever since. But Sierra sees beyond Caleb's past and becomes determined to help him find forgiveness and, maybe, redemption. As disapproval, misconceptions, and suspicions swirl around them, Caleb and Sierra discover the one thing that transcends all else: true love. What Light is a love story that's moving and life-affirming and completely unforgettable.
This was like a fanfic author's first attempt at an original novel. What I mean to say is that it had the heart and soul of a really good story, I laughed at parts and gushed my heart out at others, but this was missing a lot of the mechanics. I found the time skips spent no time establishing themselves, the author focused on minute descriptors, and a lot of the thoughts and opinions of the characters were bluntly stated through the main character's narration. A lot of the plot points were also resolved the same way: with Sierra having one more argument with the other characters till they relented.
Two and a calf out of five cows. Maybe three. I'm undecided. I tend to be harsh when it comes to technical critiques. Not that I have any right to, as editing is my Achilles heel, but you know xD
