What I like about toads (Let's-read-and-find-out science book) The copy we got is pretty old. Something funny about it. The story starts on the inside of the cover. There is no page with the copyright info or a title page or anything. Strange. It starts out "I didn't used to like toads." We never learned who "I" was but we learned a lot about toads, how they differ from frogs, what they eat and how much, how they benefit farmers, and about those warts. The only thing I questioned about this book is it says toads can give off a poison from their skin. I am skeptical that our everyday toads can do that. I have been holding toads since I was a kid and none ever poisoned me. It put a little fright into my son who loves to hold toads. Now he has doubts and we'll have to find out if this is true to alleviate that fear for him and for me as well. Maybe there is a newer version of this book, that would be nice. But meanwhile we are happy with this one. I believe reading and learning about nature and wildlife benefits everyone. It increases a child's awareness of the world around him and invites him to explore it. As he grows he builds on that knowledge and experience. When he is grown all this will be integrated into his life experience and will unconsciously guide his future attitude toward our world. It isn't just entertainment, it's education.
