Riveting and powerful

At 18, Michael Jennings doesn't really know what he wants to do with his life...but he's completely sure he doesn't want to be in Vietnam. Drafted into the Army, Michael is forced to fight in a war he doesn't really even understand, only praying that he might actually be able to return to Colorado after his year is up. Michael's days are filled with horrifying encounters and images, which Emerson manages to convey with a simple and accurate impact. Yet despite the grim reality, the novel is punctuated with bits of humor and color from Michael and his fellow soldiers, including the goofy Snoopy, best buds Finnegan and J.D., and serious Viper. This book is the first of four in a series -- five, if you count "The Road Home," which was written under Ellen Emerson White and is the conclusion of Michael's story.

Welcome to Vietnam

In the book Welcome to Vietnam it tells a story of a real war there are five main characters. The first Michael Jennings, he thought that the war was just a far away place were people were killing each other for reasons that weren't very clear. Until he met the rest of the guys in Echo Company. Then there is Snoopy, he knew the only way to live through the nightmare was to laugh at it. He was the one who made his friends laugh and like a class clown. Then there is SGT. HANSON just wanted to get his guys out alive. He was one of those people who would die for his country. FINNECAN was mad that the Red Sox finally won the pennant, he had to be in Vietnam. Now the last one is J.D., he could only think of his girl back home. Her name was Emily They would write letters to each other durig war. Lots of guys get transfer to war and they were one of those people. They never thought that war would be so crul and fierce. The saw people being slotterd and getting shot all over their body. You know how war could be, well they tell you every thing. They get into helicopters and go to the dreadful war. What I liked about this book was the action and the real facts. They also described have the country of Vietnam. They also described all of the ones getting killed and how they would beg for forgiveness. I didnot like how they would leave clif hangers because I would want to read more and more. I would like there to be more action but less killing. My favorite part of the book is when they arrived at Vietnam and heard gunshots and they all ran for cover. I thought that was the best part because they all thought they were going to die.

Echo Company Rocks!

I spent over 3 years looking for this book, and when I did find it I spent 15.00 for the 2.95 book. I believe it was worth it! If you like fiction, or Vietnam, or history you'll love this book. I originally read The Road Home, which is the continuation of the story of Michael Jennings and Rebecca Phillips. It was written by Ellen Emerson White; Zack Emerson was a pen name. READ THIS BOOK!
