Just When You Think It Can't Get Weirder

It has to be at least 4 years since I first saw one of these weird guides in San Francisco. I loved it and laughed so hard my sides hurt. Since then I've depended on the two Marks and their gang of cohorts to cheer me up and give me new destinations to visit across the contiguous 48. As the title states: The ODDyssey Continues. Odd it is. From secret societies, to UFO sightings, haunted places, strange graves, architectural achievements (and blunders), flights of fancy, and the obsessions of folks who have dared to step out of the box, these guides seem to have it all. Even when they miss things that I have caught on the fly, they invariably add it to the next book. This book is great, but in reality it is just another installment in the endless list of curiousities which make the U.S. one big roadtrip. Read this if you are itchin' to take to the open road or if you are house bound and need a break from reality.

Weirdness, indeed

This book is both informative and very entertaining. One must decide how much of the traditional descriptions are absolute fact and how much has been "enhanced" over the years. At the very least I now want more than ever to travel to some of these places and see for myself ! Clear, informative, entertaining writing that took some real digging for the basis of the weirdness presented.

Sequels can be as good as the original!

It was nice to hear some fresh new stories, you can only read the first one so many times before you know it all. A good installment to the Weird series.

Weird US II

If you loved the first book, you'll love the second. Filled with tons of photos and information, this book quickly became a family favorite. Both of my kids love it and want to run off and explore some of the places listed. Well worth the read.

Another great book

The "Weird" series are great collections for those of us who enjoy reading strange histories, folklore, and reports of the unexplained (i.e. ghosts, aliens, cryptoids). This book is a continuation of "Weird U.S." and some of the stories in here truly are weird. If you're a fan ofany of the other books that these two men named Mark have compiled, then you know what to expect. But if you're not... All of the books in the "Weird" series are mostly made up from contributions from people all over the United States, even Puerto Rico. A lot of the stories therein are historically true (The Bender Family of Kansas, Sherrif Plummer in Montana, etc.). There's always large sections dedicated to abandoned towns, schools, asylums which are easily verifiable. Some of the most interesting reading here, however, is the folklore which, seldomly backed by much more than the person's word, must be taken with a grain of salt. "Weird U.S.: The ODDyssey Continues" is another in a long line of great books that will leave you wishing there was more, and who knows? Maybe there will be a third. Each book has certainly been succesful enough. A "Weird" book is always a sure bet on a dark night.
