When it comes to weirdness, England beats the U.S., hands down. After all, the Sceptr d Isle has had a few more centuries to master the art of the bizarre. And no one s better to chronicle Britain s decidedly odd features than Matt Lake. Join him as he visits the town where it rained frogs, the Highgate Vampire, Fauxhenge, the Bleeding Tombstone of Hinckley, the Yorkshire Methusaleh, the Rude Man of Cerne Abbas and much more.
Good weird fun, and it'll give you a jolly good laugh.

90 Snazzes on the 100 point Snazz-o-scale! Weird England is a surprising good and enjoyable book. I say surprising because I first looked at it and I thought "Weird England?? This series started in America, what on earth are we doing in England??" And I KNEW England was weird, just look at Benny Hill, the Black Adder, and the famous Monty Python. But after I got into the book I really liked it. The author has a marvelous wit in his writing that makes it a great read. The weirdness, like many of the books, covers the whole Weird Spectrum. From the supernatural like the Haunting of Cock Lane to eccentrics like Screaming Lord Sutch, of the Monster Raving Loony Party. From wonderful ruins to graveyards, haunted roads to strange artwork and collections. Wonderful stuff and wonderfully weird stuff and wonderfully WONDERFULLY weird writing. Give it a read!

Weird England is a light, enjoyable read. You don't have to be an Anglophile (like myself) to be vastly entertained by the unique content and pictures. It's written with an open, objective slant, letting the reader decide the merits of the many folk tales, superstitions, and ghost stories that lie within its pages.
The Best and Weirdest!

Of the "Weird" series books that I've read, this is far and away the best. I think there are two reasons for that: 1) the book was written by the man who EDITED the books on the various parts of Weird America (and individual states), and he's a better writer/thinker than the usual writers and 2) England has been inhabited, heavily, for such a long time that it has greater depth of weirdness than we have here in dull young America! Like the other "Weird" books, this one is heavy on photos and a little shy on explanations. The histories and explanations in this one, though, are more complete and satisfying than those in the ones on America and its states. Topics include "art" created by obsessives in their own back yards; ghosts and hauntings; standing stones and ancient monuments; cemetery oddities; deserted towns and buildings; and much more. You'll luv it!
