Top-notch Mexican cookbook - whether you're dieting or not

This is one of my favorite cookbooks, whether I'm in weight loss mode or not. I'm from Texas, so feel I know good Mexican food. The WW team really researched authentic Mexican cooking - NOT cheesy-greasy Tex-Mex - and created recipes with complex intriguing flavors that employ roasted chilis and seeds, orange and lemon zest, and other interesting techniques. I've been making the mole for years, and have never found another mole to compare. (I'm always astonished at the ingredient list, which includes corn tortillas, chipotle peppers, aniseed, mulato/pasilla/ancho peppers - the mole triumvirate - unsweetened cocoa, onions, raisins, cloves, cinnamon, etc.) The tinga poblano (smoky pork stew) is another of my standards, and I just made the chicken pibil - in which I was introduced to achiote seeds, red in color and sweet & smoky in taste. I served it to my friend last night and she was raving. The cookbook said that achiote seeds are widely available, and sure enough they were - I'd just never noticed them. The cookbook has a very helpful section describing all the new unfamiliar ingredients and what to do with them. While we in Texas have never had a problem finding these ingredients, now the rest of the country is happily finding more Mexican ingredients in your groceries. Also Slimways Mexican is well-designed - both hardback (holds up in the kitchen) and spiral-bound (lays flat). The page numbers are hard to read, and it lacks a master table of contents listing all the recipes (one of my pet peeves w cookbooks) - but these are small downsides. (Plus there are no lush food photos, if that's what you're into.) I've given several copies of this cookbook to friends and family. It's almost a shame it is billed as a weight-loss cookbook, because it definitely holds its own. But that does mean the calories, fat, carb, and other nutritional info is listed, which can be handy if you are in diet mode.

I know where you can find a lot of these books!

Even though this is out of print, you can find used ones on half.com. I sold mine because I never used it. I hope this is helpful for those of you who still want to buy it.

This book still available!

I did a search and found this book is still being sold elsewhere. Best buy is on ecampus.com, books. It may be out of print, but many other bookstores still have copies. I did a search on allbookstores.com and found the best price. Good luck!

Excellent - More, More, More

This is an excellent way to enjoy Mexican Cusine and stay slim. I gave my copy to my son who is also counting his fat grams. I am disappointed to learn that this book is no longer available. I went to a Weight Watcher office in Sugar Land Texas and they gave me the bad news.
