Book Overview

More than just a pair of days, a weekend is also a state of mind--a feeling of relaxation and freedom to immerse ourselves fully in a favorite activity. In Weekend Sewing, designer Heather Ross presents creative projects for clothing, accessories, and home items that can be made in a weekend or less. Some, like the Quick Garden Gloves and Ruby's Bloomers, take a few hours; others, like the Weekend-Away Travel Bag and Trapeze Sundress, require a day...

no patterns included

this book may have been great if the patterns were included and without them it is USELESS

Projects I Might Actually Make!

I was pleasantly surprised by this one! It’s got some cool projects and I like the way it’s formatted.

Pattern sheet missing

Without the patterns, this book is nothing I can use. The description said the patterns were included. I would not have bought it if I had known they were missing.

Patterns missing! Book useless without them.

Book useless without them.

happily surprised

I am so happy to have found this wonderful book. My 7 year daughter loves to sew and I was on the search for a book that would give us patterns to sew together. This book is delicious! We both sat and fingered through the beautful photos, read some fun personal stories generously provided by the author and started our first project, a trapeze dress. So fun, fast and pretty!!! Heather Ross makes you feel comfortable and excited about sewing.(I am still learning) In these complicated times she takes us back to the basics of life reminds us of the beauty it holds. We are grateful for this find and are onto the next project. Thank you Heather Ross for the refreshing outlook you bring!! (I hope there will be a winter one.)

the sewing book i've been waiting for

This is the sewing book i've been waiting for--beautiful patterns that go well beyond "tote bag" and "pin cushion." The women's apparel patterns are especially appealing--really pretty silhouettes that a beginner can work her way up to. Given the cost of a single sewing pattern these days, this book is a welcome change. There is something for everyone in this book--women's apparel, adorable kids outfits, and useful accessories (leather handbag, toiletries bag). With the detailed instructions and illustrations, I truly plan on doing most of the projects in this book.

Perfect!

I had not touched my sewing machine for 10 years until this book inspired me to put my foot back on the pedal. Illustrations are beautiful and informative. Projects are fun, practical, and easy to follow!

I did my homework

Before purchasing this darling little book, I read all the reviews and found a few common themes - the book is beautiful, the projects are smart and creative, and there are bugs in some of the patterns. After reading the 20+ reviews, I realized that all the fuss stemmed from a grand total of 6 of the 40 patterns... not a lot, but enough to make me keep digging before buying. I then followed the trail of the more helpful reviews to Heather's blog. I don't have the gift of words to describe how entertaining it is. But I can say that it convinced me to buy this book. Most helpful was the POSTED ERRATA (I can't include a link, but search "heather ross errata" and it will take you right there!). I'm happy to say that I'm already on my third project. My Yard Sale Skirt from one of my favorite Marimekko prints is dreamy (with a little extra help from that sixth panel!), and the Everything Tote turned out better than I could have hoped (again with the help of an extra 1/2 yard). And there is a free pattern for a sundress on her blog that I've got on my list! I wish the book got all the patterns right on the first printing, but 34 of the 40 seem perfect, and the remaining 6 (which happen to be my favorites!) are clearly addressed in the errata. Not bad for twenty dollars.
