Lyla Lassiter has a standing date with Jamie Donlon every Wednesday. She takes a long bath, lights candles, eats chocolate truffles and dresses just to please him. There is just one problem. Jamie has batteries and while he brings joy and ecstasy to Lyla, he is a poor stand-in to the real Jamie Donlon, Lyla's boss and secret crush. The crush is secret because Lyla knows that there is no way that the real Jamie Donlon would ever look at an over-lush, somewhat plain woman like her. Content with her fantasy Jamie, Lyla has no idea that with one frantic phone call from her sister, her relationship with Jamie will change overnight. Jamie Donlon is lusting after his best sales associate. When she needs a ride to the hospital, Jamie volunteers and what he deals with there, astounds him. While Lyla's mother is difficult at best, Jamie tries to stick around for Lyla but decides that the best way to handle his situation is by meeting with her the next day. Stating that he needs to see Lyla in his office, Jamie leaves the hospital and looks forward to seeing Lyla again. Lyla has spent most of the day terrified. The only thing worse than getting fired, which she knows is what is getting ready to happen, will be not being able to see Jamie everyday. At the appointed time stipulated by Jamie, Lyla knocks on his office door, takes a deep breath and steps inside. Wednesday Nights With Jamie absolutely drew me in from page one. Realistic almost to a fault, I found myself wincing in embarrassment along with Lyla for the way Jamie was treated by her mother. Then, I had to fight embarrassment for the way Jamie's mother treated Lyla. The fact that interracial couples probably deal with the same stereotypes, made Wednesday Nights With Jamie just that much more special to me. Totally naughty, downright sexy and extremely well written, I loved this book. Wednesday Nights With Jamie is the first book I have ever read by Daisy Dexter Dobbs and I count myself lucky to have found another author to enjoy reading! While this book was the first, it won't be the last! Talia reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed
