Circuit Killer

Stukas, David. "Wearing Black to the White Party", Kensington Books, 2004. Circuit Killer Amos Lassen Robert Wilson and pal Michael Stark can't wait to get Rex Gifford's Red Party which sounds like it is going to be bigger than the notorious gay circuit White Party. When they arrive in Palm Springs they get the news that the party house has been getting threatening letters. At first thought it seemed as if the White Party people were jealous. Rex then turned up as an electrocuted corpse in his swimming pool after a palm tree fell on his bedroom and his gas grill exploded. Monette, Robert's lesbian friend appears just on time to help solve the crime and then there is another murder and soon things seem to get out of hand. David Stukas gives us a new look at the circuit party in this wild commentary on the events. We get a very funny murder mystery with lots of suspense and a love story as well as lots of sex. Set in Southern California, Stukas gives us a great cast of characters and witty dialogue, stereotypical characterizations, and a real touch of kink in this book that is a fun read. They are plenty of gay exchanges and the reader is pulled in on the first page. The mystery is simply the background so we can't really come to our own conclusions but we can have a lot of laughs along the way. We have to leave the murder to Robert and Monette to solve while we party with the circuit boys. There is fun throughout and camp and wit rule in "Wearing Black to the White Party".

Circuit Hysteria!

Falling plam trees, exploding BBQ ranges, falling boulders, and a host of other "incidents" color this hectic and hilarious commentary on contemporay circuit parties. With tongue in cheek, Mr. Stukas has taken on the Circuit Boy genre and turned it into a comic murder mystery with just enough of all the elements of suspense to keep the reader's attention. Robert falls in love, (again), Michael is sexually insatiable as usual, and Monette, dear Monette, is forced at her 6'4" height to squeeze into a Geo Metro with a stick-shift. The dialogue is fast paced, witty, and sarcastic. The victim(s) of this murder mystery may not in fact be the corpse(s) found. With Southern California as the back-drop, stereotypical characterizations, and a twist of the kinky, how can this book do anything but entertain? A good beach/pool side read.
