Fun, creative approach

This book is part how-to guide and part novel, but all fun. Learn to bring out a more sensual you and then follow three very different, but likable heroines as they do the same. I liked the idea and the execution.

APOOO BookClub Rating: 4.5 Pia Jamison wants a baby but she does not quite know how to go about getting what she wants in a helpful way. When her secretary, who is also her friend, sends her to California to some seminar Pia is furious! She feels she does not need a seminar on seduction but she does admit she needs some help getting what she wants. At forty-one, with no man in sight, and practicing celibacy for several years Pia is rusty so to speak. One look at the Weapons of Mass Seduction (WMS) instructor makes Pia change her mind and give things a chance. After all, what harm can come of listening to an instructor that looks like a hippy but exudes sensuality? At the seminar, Pia meets many women but becomes partners with two others, Florence Chase from Texas who wants to help her marriage and Rebecca Vossel a twenty-something who is struggling with her looks. Together, all three women learn the tips given by their instructor on sensuality and seduction. But will each woman use the tips in the right way or will the tips fall on deaf ears and be used in the wrong way? In Weapons of Mass Seduction by Lori Bryant-Woolridge, readers learn right along with the characters and that is an aspect of the book that was really enjoyable. Bryant-Woolridge does a wonderful job at capturing each character's individuality by including different age ranges and making them relatable to all types. When the women leave the seminar is when the fun begins. At that point, we are able to see them put their learned skills to work in their everyday lives. Towards the end of WMS, the readers really get to see how each woman has transformed and learned something about themselves that they would not have previously done if not for the seminar. WMS has some great tips within it on who to connect with your inner sensual self! I recommend this book to women of ALL ages! Reviewed by Chantay APOOO BookClub

Clever Idea Works Well

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Lori Bryant-Woolridge has not only crafted a tale with memorable characters and a well-developed plot, but she has also given women some tools to enhance their lives. I can envision Tyra Banks having guests on her show share their experiences after learning and using the book's tips on flirting; but I'm not waiting for Tyra . . . I'm going to put these tips to use myself! The three women who attend the flirting workshop in the novel illustrate that women of all ages and life stages stand to benefit from these lessons. Pia is an attractive career woman with a body that she keeps well toned. At forty-something, she can still reel in the guys with her looks; but her actions quickly send them running in the other direction. Fifty-three-year-old Flo, on the other hand, is a married homemaker who fears she no longer appeals to her husband. Pia and Flo both want to recapture some of their former charm, while their twenty-two-year-old cohort, Becca, has yet to unearth her womanly allure. After attending the workshop, these three ladies become armed with some heavy artillery that they immediately put to use. As each woman begins to try out her new tools, she finds herself in the midst of greater, life-altering changes. This is when the story really heats up. (Pun intended!) Adding to my enjoyment of the book is the cleverly presented theme that as women we should know ourselves, be true to ourselves, and enjoy the world around us. This timeless message is juxtaposed against some of our most pressing current issues--including the portrayal of black women in music videos, which is a very hot topic these days. In many additional ways, the book continues to successfully marry opposites: It combines fiction (the story) and nonfiction (the flirting workshop) in a light, fun read that takes on some heavier issues. BRILLIANT!

Excellent and Oh So Needed

I loved this book. I needed this book. It really is what it claims to be on the cover--a flirting workshop within a novel--and a lot more. At first I was a little put off by the whole workshop thing, wanting to get into the story but it didn't take long before I was really into it and asking myself questions about my own sensuality. The author does a really good job of weaving the story information and the workshop information together so it flows well. It even has tests in the back to help you figure out where you stand on the sensuality scale. After "taking" the workshop it was fun to see what happened to the characters after they took it. And the novel part of the book didn't disappoint at all. I really related to the characters and their issues. Especially Flo, who is so funny. Pia the main character is great too and it was interesting to see her go from a woman who was afraid to love into one who finds true love but has a high, high hurdle to get over to claim it. And Becca, well she's just a lost child but finds her way like we all do. This book was really different and a really great read. I recommend it very highly and I'll be reading everything this author writes in the past and future.
