This book, first published in 1975, is a history of Britain. Written as a textbook, it suffers from the same problem as many older books of that type: that is, it makes for rather dry reading. That said, though, it is a highly informative book, that contains an absolute wealth of information on its era. It covers politics and economics with considerable clarity, but gives very short shrift to religious happenings. Also, I highly appreciated that the author gave the birth and death years of almost every person discussed, which helps the reader view the happenings with an eye towards a generational understanding. Therefore, I must say that I liked this book a lot, but give it a somewhat guarded recommendation.
