Daryl Johnston, "Watching Football: Discovering the Game Within the Game" This book provides an insider's view of the game. DJ brings his unique perspective as both a former player and a current analyst for Fox Sports, and fans are the beneficiary. More a viewer's guide to the game than a general overview, he covers basics like rules, the uniform, definitions, offense, defense and special teams. The 250p paperback is published by Insider's Guide and lists at $14.95.

Thought I knew alot about the game, but this taught me more

Really enjoyed this book. I like the game and rather watch it on TV rather than at a stadium. And now, I can enjoy it even more through Johnston's concise, analytical prose. I think he's one of the better football analysts, he makes the game come alive and points out things you might have missed, or not understood. Check out this book and you'll have a superb read while increasing your football comprehension.

Great book from the Moose

I was thrilled to see this book come out by the great Daryl "Moose" Johnston. I followed his career all the years he was with the Cowboys. It is an interesting book to read! Thanks DJ!

How to read a book about how to watch a football game

This is a good fundamental book about football. The author is a former NFL player, and present tv comentator. Read it fast, because there are unnecessary diversions.

In-Depth Perspective

This is definately the best analysis of the game of football I have ever read. I am an avid football fan and I still gained tons of knowledge about the game's lesser known aspects. Daryl Johnston offers a unique perspective, having lined up between two of the best pro football players(Troy Aikman and Emmit Smith)of the 90's for most of his career. He also has followed the game as a broadcaster for FOX. Watching Football is a must for all fans, from novices to fanatics.
