Amazing!

Wonderful book for novice or expert. Information and artwork lavish and widespread. Don't normally go for this but this book is really great!

A good book to have

A good book to have for anyone interested in the civil war or just its naval aspects. Provides general information on key warships of both sides and general information of all other warships used by both sides. Nicely illustrated and very well written. A good book to have.

Indispensable!

I read a number of reviews saying this was the book to have if you're interested in the ships of the Civil War - more than true. PROFUSELY illustrated with the major ships of the war (divided into classes), their histories and vital stats, the book also features illustrations of major naval battles of the war and a what looks to be a comprehensive listing of all ships of the war. As a wargamer of the Civil War navies and painter of associated ships, this book has been indispensable for getting the colors down - moreso than B & W or sepia photos of the era to be sure. There are a few errors in the book, such as flags that would have flown over particular ships, but I can't live (or game) without this book!
