The best one in the series since The Daemons Curse

I really liked the first novel in the series, The Daemon's Curse. It was a great old fashioned fantasy novel with a lot of cool dungeons that Malus had to navigate and had energetic action scenes. Fantastic descriptions really helped in imagining the various dark settings and the sword fighting. Then came the next two books in the series, and I was less enthusiastic. Kind of average for those two books and not all that good. But this fourth novel, Warpsword, recaptures the magic of the first! Breathless reading, I had to read this at a lightning pace because of how much I was getting into it. Awesome combat scenes in this one, especially the climax which was a great pay off. Really entertaining battles that are vivid and exciting. Also, Malus many times seems to be in mortal danger and close to death in this installment which made it more suspenseful and different than the previous three novels. I could also follow the straight forward story line easily and it had some interesting characters besides Malus that were well developed, in the previous books many of the characters were not memorable.

Decent Novel

Another decent entry into the Malus Darkblade series. While it isn't a great piece of literature, it is the prose equivalent of a good action movie. Occasionally the plot is a bit of a stretch, like portions of the last in the series, but overall it is readable. If you enjoy Dan Abnett, Mike Lee, or the rest of the Malus Darkblade series, you'll probably like this one too.

Root for the bad guy or the REALLY bad guy

Warpsword continues to follow the quest of Malus Darkblade to recover five magical artifacts to free the demon Tz'arkan or forfeit his soul. The latest is rumored to be within the aptly named City of Blood, seat of the Temple of Khaine, and now the site of a schism between the zealotous murderers and the muderous zealots. Malus has to walk a fine line, decieveing and promising all to everyone to get one step closer to his goal. He is also reunited with his unloved and unmissed brother, who has taken hold of the belief that he is a figure of prophecy, and part of his reward for fulfilling it will be taking Malus's head. All in a days life for a druchii that makes his kin seem civilized and fair-dealing by comparison.

The Dark Duo's latest Malus novel is out!

Malus Darkblade is a druchii of Hag Graef. He is possessed by an ancient daemon named Tz'arkan. The daemon owns more than simply Malus's body, he owns the druchii's dark soul. Unless Malus fetches five objects of power quickly, he will forfeit his soul forever. Malus Darkblade has obtained three of the five objects required. Now Malus goes after the Warpsword of Khaine. It resides in the city of Har Ganeth. According to legend, only the true Swordbearer can hold the sword; he cannot be undefeated in battle. Har Ganeth is the City of Executioners. The city lives up to its name. Death is constant as servants of Khaine (Lord of Murder) are always seeking more bodies to kill, hack apart, and feed to their god. Malus must somehow penetrate the confines of the Sanctum of the Sword. This is made much more difficult by the fact that zealots are flooding into the city, positive that the fated Scourge of Khaine has finally come to claim the Warpsword. Problem is that Malus is not considered the true Scourge; his half-brother, Urial, is. "The Time of Blood is nigh!" ***** A dark and dreary addition to the Darkblade series. Full of battles, betrayals, and lots of gore, I found myself unable to pull myself away from the book. Trust me, reading late into the night with this book is sure to bring ... interesting ... dreams. Authors Dan Abnett and Mike Lee prove themselves to be something of a Dark Duo. With each book, the Dark Duo make Malus's character become more real. I find myself eagerly awaiting the next relic's story. Astounding! ***** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.

Wonderfully dark and sharp as hell! This book doesn't have a good guy you're left with the villain all the way.
