This book was great, so great that I read it in less than a day. Watching Mya's character develop, grow, fall, and recover was an emotional roller coaster for me, it left me wanting to take a second spin as the ride came to an end.The book was extremely well written and contained enough twists and turns to keep me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was coming next. The powerful message sent by the book has been said before, but this time it resonated home..."You must first love yourself before you can love anyone else". Simple, but true.I look forward to reading Johnson-Hodge's next book!
A Must Read

Warm Hands is not your typical romance novel. It made me take an introspective peek at my track record with men. This book is about relationships with family, friends, and the opposite sex. All the relationships that encompass who we are and why we react the way we do in certain situations. Just when I thought I had the plot all figured out, things took a turn. Warm Hands is very unpredictable, entertaining, and will make you take a hard long look at your relationships with the opposite sex.I highly recommend Warm Hands to anyone looking for a romance novel with lots of surprises! You won't soon forget the lessons either. Thanks Ms. Johnson-Hodge for such an enlightening novel. Now I better go get my hands on The Real Deal and A New Day. :-) I like your style. I wish you much success.
Difficult to put down

Several times I tried to put this book down unsuccessfully. The more I read, the more I felt that Mya was living my life story. This story hit so close to home it was at times difficult to read. Ms. Hodge writes as if we are in conversation. She is like one of the homegirls telling a friend's story. Warm Hands (like her other books New Day and Real Deal)is a story that black women can relate to. Her writing is uncompromising and unforgiving. Warm Hands is both entertaining and uplifting. In choosing fiction, I often select stories that allow me to escape. I was not allowed to escape with this book; I was forced to face life as it truly is and was rewarded for it. I have a renewed sense of hope that maybe there is a better ending. Although my ending may not be exactly as the one MJH portrayed, I am hopeful of something just as good. I can't express how truly wonderful this book was for me except to say that I purchased copies for my sisterfriends and female family members to think about and enjoy. I also recommend this book to female acquaintances who seem to exhibit the same sign of constantly choosing the wrong men in their lives. I anxiously await Ms. Hodge's next book. Mya's story and both of her wedding ceremonies are my inspiration.
Great Reading

Margaret Johnson-Hodge touches me with her gritty, urban writing. Warm Hands is about relationships and families and how our relationships with our families make us react in all of our other relationships. Mya William's family is dysfunctional but Mya is so busy with her life that she pays little attention to how her father treats or mistreats her mother. Mya is unaware that she keeps choosing men just like her father. Despite the fact that Jeff is the best man that she has ever had, Mya messes up the relationship with her fiance' because she doesn't know how to do any better. It takes a series of family dramas to make Mya wake up and realize that her parents relationship was not perfect. Maragaret seems to master the art of viewing how people interact with one another, both functionally and dysfunctionally. The secondary story line is just as interesting as the primary story line. I love how Margaret allowed Mya's mother Claudia to get fed up and leave her husband, Scotty. Claudia moved in with her sister in law Martha, whose husband had left her to be with a much younger woman after forty something years of being married. Claudia eventually goes back to Scotty after his crazy girlfriend (Tilly) tried to kill him. Margaret's story is so real. Margaret has drawn me into her story because when I read this book my thoughts were that I have seen this happen, I know these people. I enjoy reading Margaret's books so much because I can identify with the people and the struggles in their relationships. I recommend this book to everybody.
What Makes Us Behave the Way We Do?

What struck me first about Warm Hands was how personal and poetic the prose was. The narrative is so intense you will be caught up from the initial breathless words. Margaret Johnson-Hodge delves deeply into the character, Mya , a woman who, just like us, only wants to be happy and she equates happiness with finding a soul mate. When she lucks upon Jeff I am elated for her. However Ms. Johnson-Hodge has a few gut-wrenching changes in store for Mya. All I will say is, if you've ever contemplated cheating read this book first. It's an eye-opener! Warm, rich, powerful and poetic. Don't miss this keeper.
