An excellent self-defense resource for military personel.

As a former Security Officer, I have a first hand knowledge of what horrible things some people are capable of doing to others. This manual is an excellent basic primer for the beginner, as well as a fine primer for advanced Karate practicioners. The only drawback is that this manual is geared towards the combat soldier, whose job it is to kill the enemy. This manual lacks a less-than-lethal response to physical altercations. The first suppliment (War With Empty Hands, Suppliment 1: Advanced Training) attempts to fill this gap with a section on grappling theory, but would be better with a few practical examples. Overall, I consider this an excellent manual on basic self defense, and recommend it highly to all persons interested in utilitarian self-defense. If you're a police officer or security officer, you'll want to pick up Mr. Cramer's first supplement as well. Military personel will find Mr. Cramer's second supplement (War With Empty Hands, Supplement 2: Field Craft) interesting and useful, as well.
