Comprehensive Atlas of WWII and one of the best

This comprehensive color atlas is fairly large at 12 in by 9 in and covers all theaters with over 200 maps. The book is grouped chronologically by theater. The groups are as follows: Europe 1939-42; North Africa; Italy; Russia; Northwest Europe 1944 on; and war in the Pacific. The maps are usually about half to two-thirds the size of the page with a few full size. They show good details, providing important towns and rivers and sometimes other pertinent landmarks. They also show army symbols and troop movements. The maps also show a timeline of ground gained during long campaigns, troops who have been encircled etc. There are 150 photos which are a quarter to half page in size. The Table of Contents will help you find what you need as will the index. There is also a running narrative describing relevance of the maps and will be especially helpful for new students.

This book will please WWII history buffs and newcomers alike

This wonderful reference book recreates World War II like no other book, battle by battle. The pictures and diagrams are fantastic and present information in an easy to understand way. Historians familiar with the subject will really get a charge out of this complete source. This nifty book of "war maps" will also excite newcomers to genre (history of war). It will give a new appreciation for the complexities of war strategies to those not versed in the practices of war during WWII.
