In an attempt to make my writing clear and crisp, I've followed dictates of Writing 101 and avoided passive words: as, was, and modifiers ending in ly, and those adverbs that end in ily. And, in deference to Ernest Hemingway, I've tried to use simple words over harder ones, employ shorter sentences, and use positive language rather than negative wording. However, I might have stumbled a bit when trying to avoid negative wording since I detest war so very much.
