Overall very good but with a few flaws

Overall it was an enchanting story of a woman finding herself and finding much more than that. The story rode quickly, jumping from one event to the next. Honestly I couldn't put it down because I was so curious of what would happen next. The Arthur kept us into the story and didn't dare lose our attention for a moment. The actually story line was very original and very well told. However, at the end of the story I found myself with a little disappointment. Her characters were for the most part very well built, but with a few flaws. I loved reading the story and I imagine this will not be the only McKee's book that I read, but I had difficulties at being a part of her story. An Arthur's job is more than just writing a few words and making it sound good. It is so much deeper than that. Any good Arthur will put you in the story. The story is supposed to take you to places and times you've never been. A reader should be able to feel and see what the characters do. At times our Arthur did just that but at many spots she lacked that "magic". I also felt that she rushed the story. The conclusion was so quickly done that we missed the best part; the journey. The story lacked emotions, details and emphasis. For example, when Cimmera is running from who or what is unknown it dawns on her that she doesn't remember anything, not even her name. She has no idea of where she is, why she is running, whose blood is drenched on her, or who she is for that matter. She should be petrified, and our Arthur told us that she was but while reading the story I didn't feel that. Before McKee even had the chance to really show us that fear of not knowing she jumped into the next event. Cimmera built a shelter and went on with life. Our Arthur told us that it was tough being isolated and surviving with only a knife to start with but McKee never emphasized on how much it affected Cimmera or the hardships she encountered during her remoteness. I understand that was only part of the story but McKee made it a point to tell us that she was alone for some time trying to survive with almost nothing but she doesn't walk us through that event. She gave us a brief over view and then skipped the details, which didn't

She read my mind when writing this book! This book is all that I ever could've expected from McKee and much, much more! I can't wait to read it again!

A woman without a past who's life is in danger...

The only thing that Cimmera knows is that she is in danger, is carrying a beautiful knife and there is blood on her..but who's?And who is she? What was she running from? Who can she trust?This fourth book is a little different from the rest, a new character named Cimmera is the main character here, and it is a mystery/race of sorts. This series is so much better than "Shelters of Stone",(what isn't), engaging characters, good plot, no "too modern", unrealistic dialog, or chapters devoted to describing a bone cup. Had me guessing about Cimmeras' past,what happened that was so horrific that it brought on amnesia? Whose blood is it, did she kill someone? If she did, why? Will she remember who she is and who is after her in time? Well worth it, I would give it six stars, it is that good.
