Best book for a walking tour of SF

I was given this book as a gift and made the mistake of lending it out. I never got it back, but when I saw I could find it used, I bought several copies as gifts and one for myself. This is such a fun way to see the city by the bay. You walk along reading about the great history of San Francisco, and real medallions in the sidewalks that guide you along with the book. If you have been to Boston and walked the Freedom Trail, this is similar. The book will tell you so many great tales and take you on a fantastic walk through one of the greatest cities in the world.

Great Tour/History Lesson

Have followed this tour twice and lent this book twice to friends who followed this tour through San Francisco. I have nothing but good things to say about this book. It is a must-have for a full visit to the city with a rich history to read on your way there and insights that you would miss as a tourist!

Great Book

A+ in terms of history. Fun and easy to read, great overall guide.

Walking San Francisco on the Barbary Coast Trail by D. Bacon

Exceptional book, written with the average Joe-Citizen in mind. We have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for about 15 year, but never dared to walk San Francisco like this before. Saw this book and realized what an understated gem it was. Maps and Illustrations are fun and helpful, too. Many interesting anecdotes about the city's history and interesting spots. Walk took 6 hours, was invigorating, and amazed after it was over how much we had seen up close and with more knowledge about the sites than ever. Took friends from Australia with us, and they commented that they thoroughly enjoyed the walk, too. Recommend it without reservation. By the way, a few of the other ratings are somehow at "0". This throws off the book's ratings from the two (so far) who have rated it at "5".

The Barbary Coast San Francisco

I absolutely love this book because it has taken me to parts of San Francisco I didn't know existed. Daniel's writing style is relaxed and humorous in relating historical facts which could be dry on their own. I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted to learn about the formation and people of San Francisco during the Barbary Coast years. To actually walk the Barbary Coast trail and see the buildings and areas in the book only enhances the experience!
