From the New York Times best-selling author of The Red Hat Club comes a hilarious story of marriage and love and second chances.
When Elizabeth Mooney escaped the shame of her "white trash" family to marry Howell Whittington, the crown prince of her small town, she never dreamed that thirty years later, she'd end up trapped in a loveless marriage to the cruel banker who's foreclosing on all her friends. Then Howe has a stroke...
First book that I read by Haywood Smith. This one
Was laugh out loud funny. Elizabeth, trapped in a loveless marriage as her husband has turned his back on her years ago, seeks a friendship with another man. Howe her husband has a stroke and wakes up wanting everything that Elizabeth has regretted losing when they drifted apart. The way he goes about saving their marriage is not how Elizabeth has dreamed of their peacemaking. No filters and making amends in challenging his previous lifestyle, he sends Elizabeth reeling and there is still the new “friendship” to consider. Howell’s past catches up with him but dealing with it in his new and honest way may not save the day. Elizabeth is strong and sometimes silly in her desire to finally stand up for herself but easy to empathize as the problems she deals with, adult child relationships, loneliness and 2 new chances at love are understandable issues. It’s Chic lit of course but well worth the read.
