Crazy about hats!

This hat book is the best I have ever seen !The illustrations of the hat are beautiful! done! The directions for creating any of the patterns , very easy to read and follow! Love this book!!

A good book, if you're an experienced crocheter...

...because only if you are will you be able to correct the countless errors found in this book. So far, I've made a few of the 22 hats featured, and they all required some sort of editing... thank god there were pictures to work from! Otherwise, this book would have been a complete waste of time. Most of the hats are cute-- I particularly liked the Cap With Popcorns and Granny Square Hat-- it just would have been better if, oh, I don't know... THE CREATORS HAD TAKEN THE TIME TO CHECK THE PATTERNS!!!! They should have been the ones to do that, not the poor sap wondering why their hat isn't coming out right. Crocheted Hats On The Go is not a book for crocheting novices (Even I had some difficulty with it), but there are plenty of nice designs that make it worth a look. ~~LJB

Perfect Crocheted Hats

If you are like me,someone who fell in love with that famous crocheted cloche worn by Ali McGraw in "Love Story" and have been searching for a grouping of brow-kissing hats with that style and romantic ambiance for years, the pocket-sized 89 page, 22 pattern "Vogue Knitting on the Go: Crocheted Hats" may be just the thing for you. All the patterns have appeared in Vogue Knitting or in the newer hipper digest sized magazine K1 over the past few years. Most of them are classics with some trendier pieces like the "Fur Trim Helmet: Fuzzy Logic" (K1) and the "Striped Helmet: Andrean Treasure."(VK) All can be made up with the yarns suggested for perfect crocheting ease, although I discovered through trial and error that gauge must be taken into strict consideration to get a hat that actually fits one's head without pulling or straining the design. Reading the "Basics" section in the beginning of the text will help those with pattern dyslexia like myself to decipher the pattern to create the hat as intended. I admit to having had some trouble with the instruction idea of 'work 1 sc, 2 sc in next sc' etc. -- it took me several tries to figure out exactly what I was supposed to do to end up with the amount of stitches expected for each round. As the hats that I made were made in a spiral, I found that using a stitch marker helped me immensely to keep track of where I was. Please note that using fuzzy novelty yarns for these creations is almost next to impossible as the single crochet is so tight that it is difficult to see the original stitch into which you are crocheting. I took the liberty of increasing the brim size on the two hats for which I have provided photos. My suggestion is to try on the hat as you are creating it. As I like a larger fold-over brim, I simply kept increasing in kind as the pattern suggested until I got to the brim size I preferred. Bottom line: the hats included in this collection are easy to make with some basic study beforehand. Recommended to those who like classic crocheted prettiness.

Cute, hip hats...

All the hats provided in this book are cute and hip -- every single one of them. The only problem with this book is locating the yarn required for the hats. (Since I'm a beginner, I haven't learned how to substitute the required yarn with another.) My local crafts and arts stores don't carry the yarn though I eventually did find it online. Other than that, it's a great book -- small and light enough to carry around in your bag. I recommend it!
