Excellent book

This is an excellent VB Book. I constantly turn to it for code samples and commands when in need. It contains almost all the common VB Commands. Aside from that, each chapter is a lesson in itself.

VB Basics ALL in One

I would just like to say , that this book has been a real asset , in learning and developing my VB skills. - Couldn't put it down !!

Fantastic!!!

I bought this book by accident thinking it was something else and I've never put it down since. It covers all the major points I wanted to learn and more. I read this before taking the MSCE training course. After reading the first 6 chapters I found I had covered the first 4 days of the 5 day VB course. I recommend this book for all begining VB programmers even if you want to start using VB6, read this book first for all your ground work.

Very good book with some uncommon (and good) features

I consider this book to be a lucky find for me. It is one of those uncommon books that explains things very well, starts from basics, and works its way up through more advanced and very practical and useful subjects. I originally got this book just because it was the only one I could find that covered serial-port communications for Visual Basic. Since then (having done a lot of programming in Visual Basic and having looked through many, many other books of various sorts), I find that it's one of the best books I could have chosen for learning about Visual Basic in general. It got me up to speed on several topics (pictureboxes, file I/O, writing database front ends, the basics of ActiveX, just to name a few things). I heartily recommend this book for beginners through advanced intermediates -- and for folks who already have programmed a lot in other languages and are looking to broaden out into Visual Basic.

This book is the most comprehensive.

Of all the books on Visual Basic, I have found this one to be the most complete. After trying to use a different book (which was ironically larger) and becoming frustrated. I parked myself on the floor and thumbed through the Table of Contents, Index, and the Body of 12 different books on Visual Basic 5. This is the only one which covers the INPUTstatement (not the INBOX statement), the WRITE statement (not the WRITE Document statement), and discusses opening and closing files with regard to data retrieval and storage. While these should not be the only considerations when buying a Visual Basic book, it is a good indication of how practical the book is. My employer had just given me a large project using Visual Basic 5 (which I've never used before) and these were critical components of the project. After wasting a day on a different book (which the company paid $50 for) I found it necessary to find a book which at least provides information on ALL the functions of Visual Basic (the other book actually made excuses for the lack of completeness in the forward). If you are going to use Visual Basic in the workplace on a REAL project, then you need this book.
