Most of us know harlequin's historical romance novels aren't the best but i took a chance on this book. THANKS to the title and i did like it it was a good read.

Average romance with a great setting.

This was a pretty average romance - the privilaged Julia, the main character who is from a Roman family, refusing to admit her feelings for her Barbarian captor but eventually giving in, was not particularly original. But I LOVED the setting of the ancient Roman Empire. So many historicals these days are set in 1800s England and it's getting old. So if you love a romance with a unique setting I'd reccomend giving this book a try because even though the plot is not that original the setting definitley is/

First novel by this author and wont be my last!

I must say, as a Harlequin, I wasn't so sure about this product. Sometimes they lack depth. Also, this is not your typical Regency or a book with a Scot running around in a kilt. However, the idea of a captured slave to a barbarian (And what a hunky barbarian he is!)in an era many know about but kind of gets put on the back burner, was just too intriguing. There was also the delimma of a spoiled, beautiful aristocrat becoming said slave. Would she have the spirit and courage to stand up to these barbarians? In fact, these two very different people come to know each other, and themselves, delightfully. Mrs. Allen's characters are alive with strength, courage, flaws and deep emotion. The heroine is not your typical chin jutting heroine, but a delightfully real combination of vulnerability and strength. The hero is not typical, either, but a strong, fierce warrior who does things that are so typically male and so sensative, one is amazed, yet laughs out loud. Funny and full of excitement, as well as historical facts my World History teacher would have been proud of my learning (even if it wasn't in a text book) I would recommend this book to anyone! Boo-yah! Mrs. Allen!
