Book Overview

There's nothing Violet loves more than music, and she plays or sings every chance she gets. But where are the other kids like her-kids who think and dream music all day long? As a baby, in kindergarten, at the beach and the zoo, she never gives up looking for companions. And then one summer day... Bright, lively, and lyrical, this is a book for kids who march to a different drummer. Violet's Music sings to us that the right friend is always out there-as...

Happy edition to my children's library

Violet is irrepressible. The music she makes is infectious. The illustrations make this story bounce along!

Fabulous for every little music lover!

This vibrant book celebrates the joy that is music -- making it, listening to it and sharing it with others. A wonderful selection for any little one born with a song in his/her heart.

Wonderful book about learning to play (and love) music

This is just about the best kid's picturebook I've seen about learning to play music... It doesn't try to convince its readers that learning music is good, or try to list all the kinds of music there are, etc. etc. (an approach I think is flawed, and doesn't make for very good drama...) Instead, Ms. Johnson tells a story about a little girl who already loves music, and is looking for other kids to play with that love it as much as she does... It reads well and has nice, joyful artwork. Recommended!

About a young black girl who loves music dearly

Angela Johnson's Violet's Music is a wonderful picture book about a young black girl who loves music dearly - she plays or sings whenever she can. But is there anyone else who loves music like she does? The answer comes one day as she meets like-minded individuals and together they form a band. The exaggerated yet exuberant illustrations by Laura Huliska-Beith are so full with energy they practically burst off the page in this enthusiastic and recommended story.
