For Both Beginners & Veterans

Jay Dedman, one of the authors, moderates the videoblogging group at Yahoo, where a couple thousand vloggers discuss problems, debate formats & exchange tips on working with video. He also helped train people who wanted to produce video shows for the public access TV channels in Manhattan. As such he has gained an encyclopedic knowledge about working with video in both Microsoft & Apple formats. All of this serves him well in creating this masterful guide for both beginners & veteran videobloggers. I bought this book expecting it to contain little I didn't know after creating 240 videos (during the past three years) and publishing them on different sites on the Internet. I was delightfully surprised to see the chapters go from an "elementary school level" all the way through to detailed instruction which I found myself highlighting for future reference. I'm buying this book for a good friend who edits professionally for a cable network & who has produced several full length documentaries. He is a talented editor with thousands of dollars worth of professional equiptment but he doesn't understand anything about syndication. The chapter on syndication alone, along with hundreds of editing tips, networking ideas, types of specialized editing programs that can be purchased or gotten as free plug-ins, etc., make this a really great gift for anyone interested in--or actively involved in--putting video on the Internet. I never knew there was so much I didn't know until I purchased this book. I can't recommend it highly enough. It's in a class by itself.

Good start

This would be where you start, if you know nothing about the subject, but you are clever enough to talk, and stand up, at the same time. In fact, it's a good beginner to advanced type of book, and will put you on the right track.

useful practical tips and instructions to improve your videoblogging skills

yes I agree with the previous review. I found out about many new aspects to videoblogging after reading this book. it was easy to understand and follow and provided useful & relevant examples. I showed my sister who had never videoblogged and now she's started her own too, so I'd recommend this book for anyone who's both new to videoblogging and who has been doing it for a while - there's always something new to learn and try and this book is great for expanding your knowledge and practical skills. thanks

Practical AND Interesting

I have been video blogging for about a year and a half, so I didn't really expect that I would get much new out of this book, but I figured I would check it out anyway, since there are so few books currently on the topic. In fact, there were a lot of very practical tech tips that were helpful to me - things I was not aware of, and these are discussed in a step by step fashion that make them easy to learn, without being condescending. At the same time, I think this would also be an excellent book for someone just starting, due to the way that things are laid out in a straight forward/practical way. Interestingly, the thing I especially like about the book is that it combines these very practical how-to details within the context of the video blogging story, complete with information on the brief history of this technology/genre and interviews with some of those who have been instrumental in this space, and the book include a lot of examples from active and successful video blogs/bloggers. Finally, it's obvious that Jay and Josh are not outside observers who want to cash in on this growing area. In fact, both are totally immersed in the vlogging community in many ways. This really comes out in their writing and this is why they do such a good job of identifying what you really need to know to get started and to get better, while at the same time discussing the bigger picture, as to what video blogging is really all about - which goes far beyond the technical details. I strongly recommend this book - a rare example of a practical and and interesting read at the same time.
