Vibration Response of Journal Bearing: Mathematical Modelling Approach

The present research has focused on the case pertaining to a counter shaft, which is placed on more than two journal bearings. The present state of the art of fault diagnosis of machine components is, an analyst puts an accelerometer on nearby bearing of the machine component for which he wants to observe the faults. He takes the vibration spectrum and he will then only observe the abnormal growth of amplitudes pertaining to fault frequency of that component. But through the present work a new approach is being proposed. A counter shaft placed on more than two bearings should be referred as a continuous beam. If any fault occurs on any of the component which is place on it, its effect should be seen on individual bearings. As fault arises means the load on machine component has been changed, this in turns increases the reaction at respective bearings. The increased reaction is responsible to induce further vibration amplitude at components frequency. To validate the proposed new logic a work is already done by Dr. G. D. Mehta and J. P. Modak through their research considering six antifriction bearings.
