I love any type of British mystery. This book of short stories, Edited by Julian Symons and containing many diverse authors and mysteries from England's famed Detection Club is one that definitely should not be missed. Authors such as P.D. James, Gwendlolin Butler, Michael Gilbert, and Dick Francis are just a few of the geniuses included in this collection. The theme that groups all of these exceptional stories together is that of a jury; either in a literal sense or metaphorical tense. Examples of some of the brilliant stories are as follows: 1. "Great-Aunt Allie's Flypapers," by P.D. James. Police Superintendent Adam Dalgliesh explores a muder that took place in his family at the beginning of the 20th century. 2. "The Rogue Twist," by Gwendolyn Butler. A rope, a dog obedience training class, and a particularly rambunctious Labrador help Police Inspector Coffin to solve a murder by strangulation that occurred during World War II. 3. "Murder at St. Oswald's," by Michael Underwood. This is my favorite story of the bunch. Twelve English school boys form a jury to determine the sentence that should be passed upon a malevolent headmaster. 4. "Waiting for Mr. McGregor," by Julian Symons. This story of espionage has a twist upon the children's author Beatrix Potter. These are just a sampling of the many delights that await anyone who reads this superb book. Brew your self a cup of tea and settle in with this wonderful collection for an escape from the daily routine. Please give it a chance.
