All women have it, but may never have thought about it-it's the one week of the month when you feel great about yourself, more attractive, focused, and receptive to others. Your hair shines; your skin glows. But why does this happen? And why do we often feel so out of balance the rest of the month?Leading gynecologist Dr. Rebecca Booth created the Venus Week metaphor to help her patients better understand what influences the constant physical, emotional, and sexual changes they feel. Now, in The Venus Week , she reveals the surprising ways you can manage your body's weekly hormonal shifts to your best advantage, no matter what your age or stage in life. You'll discover how to: Find your Venus Week and maximize its positive effects Improve your chances of achieving-or avoiding-pregnancy Increase your energy and boost your libido Lessen the effects of the Minerva Phase: acne, irritability, weight gain and mood swings Manage common "Venus Interrupters" like stress, insulin resistance, and health conditions Ease the changes of perimenopause and menopause Knowing the secret of The Venus Week can help you feel less at the mercy of your hormones and more in control. You'll learn how these variations affect your body, your relationships, and your life in general, from your early twenties through menopause and beyond. Combining cutting-edge medical information with a diet, beauty, and lifestyle plan, The Venus Week helps you channel that look-good, feel-good phenomenon and make it work for you-not only during those few days, but all month long.
Dr. Booth delivered my 2nd son 5 1/2 years ago, so I've been getting the information laid down in this book from brief encounters as her patient. I was thrilled and not so terribly surprised when I found that she had published. A wonderful read. A must read. I wish I had this when I was a teen instead of just now in my late 30s.
The "Ah-Ha" moment book!

The first "ah-ha moment" inducing book I've found that de-mystifies what women experience each month. Dr. Booth's intellect and insight are well presented and easy to read. This is the book you wish you'd had as a teen, and are grateful to have at any age. Thank you Dr. Booth!
A Handbook For Womanhood -- that all men should read!

My wife handed me "The Venus Week" and said, "Read this." When I finished the book, I wished I had read it years ago, for it gave me an enormous appreciation for my wife -- and all women. Much of what I find to be puzzling about women is made imaginable and within my grasp through the clear and insightful writing of Dr. Booth. She moves "hormonal" from the pejorative to the descriptive; offering the magical interplay of a woman's hormones as something to be celebrated rather than endured -- or ridiculed. If I had a daughter, I would want her to read this book, and I would want her to know that I had read it, so she would know that I do have a framework for understanding her. This book is far more than a medical thesis on female hormones -- though it is grounded in sound scholarship. It is a handbook for womanhood. I recommend it to every man.
Interesting read!

I picked this book up on the new releases table at Borders and ended up walking straight to the cashier. It wasn't at all what the cover suggested to me at first, but I couldn't put it down. I hope my 16-year old daughter will read it! Vital stuff for a hormonal teen!!!
Viva la Venus!!

This book is easy to read, well-researched and chock full of information for women of all ages... from pubescence to menopause and beyond. Using attractive metaphors borrowed from Roman mythology, Dr. Booth explains the facts our mothers never told us about our hormone changes, both monthly, cyclicly, and the "macro" changes that occur throughout our lives. She explains with freshness the hormonal dance that occurs during the "Venus" week, which creates a testosterone-fueled libido spike just prior to ovulation -- every month... critical information for young girls coming of age. For women in their 20's and 30's, she offers advice on enhancing fertility ... on how to identify the physiologic signs of the "venus" or ovulatory phase... how to understand better and manage the two-week "minerva" phase post-ovulation. The later chapters on peri-menopause and beyond contribute positively to the national discussion about HRT, adding wisdom and fresh data to a subject often viewed with aversion or reluctance. Throughout this lively read are nutritional, health and beauty tips -- as they relate to the hormonal interplay; particularly current is Dr. Booth's advice about eating... and she offers innovative recipes that align with the "Venus" lifestyle, that are nutritious (low-carb, high fiber, high in nutrients) but also taste good! Overall, an insightful, well-informed celebration of Venus... of womanhood.
