If you approach Venice by way of the lagoon, the city appears to be as homogenous as a single building. But as soon as you step into its shadowy alleys, you will be captivated by the architectural... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is unbelievably good value for your money. Though small in size it offers a huge amount of information of art and architecture as the title implies, but also of history and traditions somewhat. Very good print, design and photos, maps of the city and of some buildings room by room. It's a chunky little book, but it lays very well in your hands. If you have the slightest interest in the lagoon city, don't hesitate. I can't see anyone get disappointed by this, I certainly didn't.

One of the best books I've read on Venice. Covers the important sights, some history, and the lifestyles. Excellent photos.

It ranks side by side with the other book The art of Florence. Ihave these books and I have lot's of books about Venice. But on the subject of art and architecture. This is the most comprehensive to date. It's more like a general book. It lacks though some focus on La Serenissima's various museums and other works of Art . But of any books out there to date this is certainly the most exhaustive of all. Bravi!
This book captures the past and present beauty of Venice, one of the unique cities of Europe. Venetian history is as interesting as its art is beautiful. Both are presented effectively in this gorgeous two-volume oversized book.

This beautifully produced (and very well-priced) book is the kind one would expect to find in a library or museum reading room. It's comprehensive scope and breath-taking photographs give an accurate and intimate portrait of one of the world's most beautiful and intriguing cities. The reviewer has visited Venice several times, but still managed to find many surprizes in Romanelli's book - mainly palaces and other buildings not open to the general public. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
