This book is well researched, clearly written, and serves as an excellent reference for anyone interested in a plant based diet. Many people have heard of a comparable book by John Robbins, entitled _Diet for a New America_. The Robbins book was good, and was nominated for a Pulitzer prize in the 1980's. However, the book by Keith Akers was written first and is (in my humble opinion) better in every way. Akers clearly presents the data and references, without being preachy. He argues in a calm tone, drawing attention to the ethical and nutritonal aspects of vegetarianism rather than to himself. I think this is a very good book, which still rings true, two decades after it was written.
