Whirlwind Vegas and small town romance all in one

Nellie is a librarian in small town Texas who's in a rut, but she doesn't realize it. Then she gets called out by a couple of mean high school girls who chit-chatting when they should be studying. Just like that, she's off to Vegas for a girl's weekend for a makeover and some fun. Of course on the way there, while she's still in her glasses and plain Jane clothing, she meets Jack Darby who makes her heart go pitter patter...unfortunately he doesn't feel the same zing she does. It turns out Jack is the owner of a hot Vegas night club. When Nellie shows up at his club post makeover, Jack notices her right away this time. But, of course he doesn't recognize her as the plain Jane he met in the airport. As he whisks her off her feet, Nellie struggles with whether this is really just a Vegas fling or will she be able to cast off her late grandmother's conservative, no-nonsense advice and wish for something more? I enjoyed this story both in Vegas and back in Nellie's small town. It was a charming tale and I was glad that Nellie retains who she is throughout her makeover. When she agrees to jump into bed with Jack after barely meeting him, well, it's just awkward and he knows it. Instead they go on a late night pancake date that's reminiscent of so many outings I've had in Vegas (sans the hot fling, of course!) A lot of fun with a hero that's both sweet and sexy. It's a light read with many amusing, quirky elements. I look forward to reading more from Liz Talley.

fun contemporary romance

Oak Stand High School librarian Nellie Hughes suffers from an extreme case of ennui. She needs something to refresh her trite life. Thus Nellie decides on a makeover while visiting her best friend Kate Newman who escaped Oak Stand for Vegas. Waiting for her flight, Nellie feels attracted to another passenger though "Mr. Magnificent" ignores her as his focus is on a Cardinals' game on TV. In Vegas, having had her makeover since her flight, Nellie meets Mr. Magnificent at the Agave Blue club he owns. Jack Darby makes it clear he wants her, but she assumes her new look caught his eye and that is not the daily Nellie. She flees for the safety of Texas, but is stunned when she obviously doesn't know Jack as he follows her. This is a fun contemporary romance starring a lead couple in which she has lust at first sight and he at second sight; what do you expect from a Cardinals' fan. Interestingly, both are lonely even as he has his family near and women any that he wants while she has no one since her grandma died. Readers will feel the strong attraction between the lead couple as Mr. Magnificent believes he has found his Ms. Magnificent. Harriet Klausner
