Journalist Richard Elman's well-written, sharp, witty and sometimes un-PC (by today's standards) time capsule eyewitness account and light analysis of the U.S. leg of The Rolling Stones' 1972 'Exile on Main St' tour. Elman's prose borders on poetry in places and takes an unbiased look at the band - especially Mick Jagger, Bill Wyman, and Charlie Watts (mysteriously spelled "Charley" while backing act Stevie Wonder's spelled "Stevey") and their American audience, while commenting astutely on the music/concert-goer/performer axis of Early'70s rock. Unfortunately though, this slim volume is limited regarding the now-mythical, alleged behind the scene goings on of the Stones' travelling party; But this is more than made up for by Ethan Russell's great black and white photos scattered throuhout the text. A nice refreshing souvenir for any Rolling Stones fan, particularily in light of the recent-May 2010-reissue of EXILE ON MAIN ST.
