Funny and gentle introduction for 1st time pregnancy

I bought this book while living abroad in Africa. I didn't have a clue about pregnancy and was totally overwhelmed and frightened by the whole experience. The LAST thing I needed was Dr. Spock textbooks or touchy feely earth mother jibe. I felt icky in my first trimester and, living abroad, really needed something practical and empathetic, and this book hit the spot. The author doesn't take herself seriously and presents all the tricky and weird parts of pregnancy in a non-scary, easy-to-swallow format for beginners. There were even weeks when the changes in my own body seemed to be following the book week for week. With each week I become more comfortable with facing the pregnancy, able to digest this big change in my life and start to enjoy myself. Reading each week with my husband was a great way for us to learn about the pregnancy together. I highly recommend this book for first-time mothers to be looking for some humor and a gentle introduction to this wonderful change.

Finally--a pregnancy book that is fun to read...

Definitely worth it. Funny, informative, and doesn't avoid what the real thing is like. And, rather than setting an impossible standard of 'what the perfect pregnant woman should do,' this book makes it seem like real people can be pregnant and get through it all. My friend loved it during her pregnancy, sent it to us, and now I'm sending it to all our friends.

The real deal...

For anyone, man or woman, if you are pregnant for the first time, this book is a must read! Cooke not only addresses concerns that are typical for a first pregnancy, but she does it in a way that you can relate to, and know that you aren't the first woman to go through it all! Another good thing about the book is that for certain weeks, there is space for you to answer questions about how your pregnancy has progressed! If you want a book to help demystify pregnancy, without terrifying you, you've got to get this book!

Hilarious

This book is my favorite in my pregnancy book library (which includes titles such as Pregnancy Sucks, Pregnancy for Dummies, What to Expect When You are Expecting, Belly Laughs, The Well Pregnancy Book). I like that this book is written week by week as opposed to monthly. It gives a lot of good, up to date info on all sorts of things from buying super capacity washing machines to a plethora of diseases that your baby could have. The tone it is written in is light hearted and funny. Cooke's sense of humor is right up my alley and I couldn't recommend a better, funnier read for someone who is newly preggers. I am currently reading Kid Wrangling...the sequel and what to do after the bun comes out the oven!

The Best (and funniest) Guide to Pregnancy Yet!

I have the Australian version of this book, Up the Duff, and it's hilarious. The week by week guide is both informative and funny--a must on those days where being pregnant seems just a bit overwhelming. Cooke's writing style comes off as very casual, but she is quite knowledgeable. Her cartoons are the best, worthy of placing on the office wall just to get you through the day. A must for anyone pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant!
