Slow start, but I think that the build up is necessary. I also did not expect the ending!
Enjoyed the plots and twists

I really liked the classic gothic-type story line. The main character was not someone I think I would like in real life. It kept my attention and didn't take long to read. There were no boring parts.
It's that good!

I decided to get this book after getting a sneak peak of the plot after i finished reading In a dark, dark wood by the same author and i'm glad i did! This book is better than i expected! There is so many plot twists that made me jump out of my bed and made me cry in the end. I could not put it down - finished it in 4 days. I love this book so much and i love the protagonist of this book - Hal! I highly recommend this book and this author.

This is Ruth Ware's best book yet and I have liked all of them very much. This is a good old gothic mystery, complete with the big spooky house and the quirky family. Hal is a young lady who receives a letter from a solicitor, telling her she is the heir of a lady who died, Mrs. Westaway. Supposedly this is her grandmother, but Hal thinks there must be some mistake. She is, however, barely getting by with her job of reading tarot cards and the loan sharks are descending on her. There are all the requisite twists and turns of a good tale and I changed my mind several times about the outcome. I would actually give this four and a half stars and can't wait for the next outing of this wonderful writer!
