I have read this book several times and used it as a major reference in an article I wrote entitled Titanic Thompson and Son. How in the whole wide world can this not be a movie? Writers from Damon Runyon all to way to the heroic Carlton Stowers have known Titanic Thompson was way larger than life. The current poker champions are really into prop bets which has renewed the interest in Titanic Thompson. Check his Wikipedia page. I have a character very loosely based on Titanic in my novel. Carlton Stowers is the very best true crime writer out there today. I look for his name and buy every single new title. I promise you that you will love Carlton Stowers. "Titanic" Thompson was one of the 20th century's greatest hustlers. A poor Southern boy, Ti excelled at cards, dice, and especially golf. Ti was once asked why he didn't play for the PGA. The reply: "I couldn't afford the cut in pay." Of course, this was long before the PGA golfers had six-figure salaries and seven-figure endorsement deals. Although many of the stories are surely exaggerated, this book still manages to entertain.
Hard to put down!

I have read this book before and couldn't put it down either time. The stories may be stretched a little, but legend has it that he was by far the most talented gambler/hustler who ever lived. I only wish I could have known him, but then I'd probably be dead now too!
