This is a great book and O'Reilly has good tech support!

I've purchased this book for its search capability. Since I was using a proxy server, the search function didn't work for my PC. I've contacted O'Reilly by e-mail and they responded back promptly. Tech support person told me to set my Netscape Communicator proxy exception to include localhost and it made search work on my PC. I think O'Reilly is including this instructions for their new CDs. I am happy to have 6 books for a cheap price topping it off with this search capability. This is a great deal!

Very handy

I pop in the CD while I work on some Unix stuff. It saves time and hassle. I get more ideas and learn new things in a unique way.But it is a different kind of learning -- so be patient and enjoy!

Simply a Great set - Hyperlinked refs. outstanding value.

Although single user pack, this CD from O'Reilly is unbeatable. The Unix Power Tools alone worth a lot more $s than the CD itself. The Cross-refs. are great, the search engine didn't work well on my PC, but it works great on a Unix platform (so 4 +stars). Please O'Reilly make it multi-user set and fix the PC related bug then you are a superstar.

THANK GOD FOR THIS CDROM!!!

I feel that this CDROM should be in every user's PC. I have never been able to reference material as easily and as quickly as I can in this CDROM. No matter what scenario I'm looking for, it's in one of the books on the CD ROM. Yesterday, I couldn't figure out how to rename all of my files in my directory from an old extension .new to a new extension .old. All I did then was pop in this CDROM, type that I want the search engine to search all 6 books and type keywords RENAME AND FILE AND SED (<== i had a feeling Sed would help me), and BOOM, there's my information in two seconds FLAT!! I don't understand the earlier criticism of this CDROM. For the money and the fact that you're getting 6 (count 'em) books (with subjects that are STILL widely used!) on ONE CD with a search option for only 60 BUCKS! Give me a break, this is the deal of the century!

Excellent reference material and pretty good self study.

I have been waiting a long time for this, and I am sure glad I waited. Each of the six books by themselves are pretty good, the compilation and HTML format makes this, by far, the easiest and most comprehensive Unix reference material available. It is so easy to pick up a cross reference to another book. Compiling software is not as straight forward as cut and paste, but it is not difficult either. One item to note, the version of the Unix in a Nutshell included is the System V and Solaris 2.0 version, i.e. the "2nd edition". The write ups, description of the product, and the text in the initial screens imply the 1st edition, but the BONUS surprise is - it really is the latest.
