Seminal Work for SysAdms

This is a seminal work for SysAdms. Some may look at the copyright and say the book is dated, and they're right when it comes to the chapter on UUCP, but everything in it is still fundamentally valid. It's easy to find what you need, keeps a balanced approach by noting pros and cons, and has a plethora of practical examples. 15 pages on tar, 20+ pages on cpio, and almost 20 pages just on fsck. fsck (and mkfs) became far less mysterious after reading that section. The only logical (yet verbose) step after this book's explanations is to read the programmer's notes.

Best of the Breed

I have been a UNIX SA for almost 10 years and this is "THE" UNIX book. I own most of the O'Reilly books and although they are very good, this book covers System V in an easy to understand form. If your a UNIX system administrator beginner this is the book you should start with. Then move onto the O'Reilly books. Enjoy!
