Universal Prayer - Seeking Enlightenment through Prayer in the Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish and Muslim Traditions

What is Universal Prayer? What makes a person want to write something about such an esoteric topic? For more than half a decade, this title has been posted on my wall. I do not even know when the idea passed through me. I remember thinking, what is universal prayer? As the reader, you might be wondering what kind of prayer could be considered to be universal? With so many religions in the world, this quest for a "universal prayer" may appear ludicrous. I think not. In each religion, prayer takes on special meaning. I will cover this more in detail later in a chapter. Even in primitive societies, prayer was considered a universal mental and spiritual activity. Defining this "universal mental and spiritual activity" is the intent of this book. Universal Prayer is one that meets all needs of all peoples regardless of their religious or spiritual affiliation. The need to define it within broad parameters makes it possible to reach out to those who do not "pray" and engage them in a spiritual quest of their own. My belief in universal prayer comes from a profound sense that there is a need to center one's life on universal principles that ground us in the mission to be more engaged in a meaningful way with our fellow brothers and sisters. In this way, universal prayer is one method to experience a whole, more vibrant internal and external life experience as we pass through this short lifetime. I hope this book inspires you and makes you feel more whole. Running Forward with the Wind, Bert Nemcik Westcliffe, Colorado - Marienville, Pennsylvania
