Interesting Introduction

This book would be appropriate for English language learners. The book is a picture book based on the alphabet, yet the style would be attractive for older elementary and is not too juvenile. The emphasis is on content, not alphabet. When there are pictures of children, they are various ages. This simple and interesting introduction to the US is in contemporary style, which could be used for reading instruction and making a bridge between the early states and who we have become as a nation. The teacher may want to divide the book into parts and have children keep an alphabet journal after reading each segment.
