Framents of a Review

I read this book long ago and came here to get a copy for a therapist friend. I would opine that just about anything by Volney Gay is going to be very good. I know Dr. Gay from grad school at VU where I got my PhD and I attended his psychoanalytic lectures. He was probably the best psychoanalytic writer in the Vanderbilt community which has traditionally had some heavy hitters. What Prof Gay does is make psychoanalytic perspectives very relevant, rational and practical. In general, this book, as I recall it, covers very nicely our human affinity for magical thinking and such as ways to attempt repair of a fragmented sense of self. This book is probably best for readers who are somewhat skeptical about the utility of psychoanalytic views. In short the book is very enlightening. S. Webb Sentell PhD MP
