The Open Groups' OSF Distributed Computing Environment was implemented in Microsoft's DCOM and ODBC systems, which use DCE/RPC (in MSRPC) as their network transport layer. Otherwise it is thoroughly obsolete and only of slight historical interest

A concise introduction to DCE

This book is an excellent introduction to the concepts of DCE. It takes you through all the different parts of the architecture step by step. After I read it I felt that I had a good understanding of the issues regarding development and deployment of a DCE environment.
