Poinsett's extensive handbook discusses depression from both a woman's and a Christian's point of view. Out of her own personal struggle with depression, the author seriously and realistically deals with it, taking pains to encourage women whose religious teaching has not allowed for depression in the "victorious" Christian life. In one chapter Poinsett does take the debatable view that a woman's nature is innately and biologically different from man's, and that some of these characteristics do lead more toward depression. Although this influences later comments in the book, its worth is not negated by this one chapter. (This review was previously published in "Daughters of Sarah" Nov/Dec 1985.)
