Yup! Some snitch got killed in a sting. Or was it a mistake? Detective Mac Granger was in trouble because of the shoot-out. He recognized Vince Elliot, an undercover vice cop. His partner, detective Sheila Hartman, seemed to do everything wrong. [what an idiot]. Mac got off another shot before he was hit. Ah, as Mac recuperates at an FBI safe house under orders from his boss, Hall Perkins, in comes FBI Special Agent Abby Nelson. Her job is to expose him as a dirty cop. And she is good at her job. Much as she tries to attract him she seems to over play her part as a Vegas gold-digger. Mac makes connection with his child hood buddies, Paul Hemmings, Eagle County Deputy Sheriff, and Jess Islar, a much sought after [dang good looking] member of the Vail Ski Patrol. Because of Jess's popularity with the locals Mac gets invited to Nicholas Dirk's high-powered party - Nick has his fingers in a lot of pies. He is suspected of being the drug lord. Leo Fisher, Abby's former fiance', another undercover FBI agent shows up in Vail along with Vince. Julia Last, an FBI Special Agent is in charge of the safe house's operation - Lasts Resort. [Her story is in the follow-up with Paul Hemming]. Someone is out to kill Mac before he figures out who the dirty cops are. Abby decides that Mac is honest and needs help to run a sting of his own. Excellent story except for the PMS - "I am of a suspicious nature so I pegged at least a couple of the characters. But was way out on a couple." DEFINITELY A GOOD READ -- Don't miss MURDER ON THE MOUNTAIN which is the folow-up -- should be very good.
