My mom got this from a thrift store when I was in first grade and it was the book that really got me into reading. This book may well be the reason I'm now a booklover for life. It is supposed to be a textbook, but it's just so fun to read that it makes a great gift for small children. I've also used this book when tutoring children who have reading problems and it tends to be a favourite among them. One of the great things about this book is that it is "sneakily" educational. You read a story which is fun, and don't even notice that you've picked up all sorts of facts about history or other cultures or what-have-you. It's also extremely eclectic. It has just about every kind of story you can think of. This should be wonderfully stimulating to a child's developing brain.
I would like to see the story called Old Arthur.
