EXCELLENT REVIEW OF SEVERAL OF OUR HEROES AND MARTYRS FOR PEACE

What most directly reaches me in this book (of two titles, but the same book) is the one whom I best knew personally, having met him in Managua twice. In the first his body was entire, and sturdy and robust. Then the US military cut off his legs in California and I met him in his wheelchair still working for peace in Managua. His name is Brian Willson (two l's) not the one you are thinking but the one you never heard of. Read all about him here. Brian Willson is our hero and our martyr. Read also his book On Third World Legs: An Autobiography. Of course the work for peace by the Brothers Berrigan is well discussed and we know much about them, although most people have false ideas about these holy men and believe that which is not true. Read this book; read Disarmed And Dangerous: The Radical Life And Times Of Daniel And Philip Berrigan, Brothers In Religious Faith And Civil Disobedience; read To Dwell in Peace: An Autobiography (Daniel Berrigan Reprint); read The Time's Discipline: The Eight Beatitudes and Nuclear Resistance. This book discusses the witness of several other forgotten heroes and martyrs for peace and nuclear resistance, those who were locked away without further ado, without publicity, but with their reward of Faith in Peace. Read as well the Reverend Father John Dear SJ and his Our God Is Nonviolent: Witnesses in the Struggle for Peace and Justice, his Oscar Romero and the nonviolent struggle for justice, his Living Peace: A Spirituality of Contemplation and Action, his new treatise of moral theological Put Down Your Sword, Jesus the Rebel: Bearer of God's Peace and Justice and Mary of Nazareth: Prophet of Peace. The author came through the jungles of Vietnam, and his prose may at times grow overflowing with images and sensual perceptions but his message and commitment are true and sincere and very well researched. Read this book and follow ever more firmly in the footsteps of these uncommon martyrs for our Faith in the Prince of Peace.
