The authority for bread making

A wide selection of various types of bread, rolls, muffins, and any other type of baked goods you may want, and all prepared the "old fashioned" way.

Best bread recipes

I can't find my 30 year old paperback which is missing front and back covers and am lost without it. There are recipes for every type of bread you could want to bake and most of the directions are colored with the author's humor. The recipes come from his family's bakery. I highly recommend it and am about to order a new one.

Bread for the head as well as the stomach

This is the only bread book you'll ever knead (pardon the pun). It is full of incredible recipes for every kind of bread imaginable and any other kind of dough-based product. All are tried-and-true recipes from the Braue families multigenerational history of baking under all kinds of circumstances--back in the old country, in military encampments, on the run into other countries, as new immigrants, etc. Almost every recipe comes with a tiny story of a memorable occasion when that bread was served or savored, whether munched on the run while deserting from the Kaiser's army or as a friendship offering to their first neighbors in the New World. Any blank spaces on the pages are, in true Old World tradition, filled with proverbs and pithy sayings that will make you laugh and think and even cry. There is a wonderful technical section on all the types of flour, ingredients, equipment, etc. and why things are done the way they are. The breads themselves are wonderful--the honey challah is "to die for", Grandma's Golden Heart Wholewheat Bread takes you right home to grannie's kitchen, the "never fail" recipes actually never fail, and all of them will disappear so fast that all you have is the lingering torment of the aroma filling your kitchen with memories. I have lost my copy, and am desperate to replace it. I hope you will consider urging the publisher to reprint this classic!

Time tested recipes for all types of breads

Time tested recipes that have been handed down for generations. Taste tested recipes that give you a nice flavorful bread you will enjoy fresh from the oven. The recipes are presented in the context of their history so they are not just lines of ingredients but legacies from our forefathers and foremothers. Also woven briefly into the recipes are useful pieces of bread lore that help you make the best of each recipe or help you adapt it to your tastes and needs. I particularly liked the rye and whole wheat bread recipes.
