One of my 3yr old firefighter's favorite books!

We checked this book out of the library (along with 15 other firefighter books) and it was instantly one of his favorites. It uses pictures for some of the words, so you'll have a page that says "A puts on " right across from a picture of a firefighter putting on boots. My son loves this book not only because I can read it to him, and not only because he can help read it (by "reading" the pictures), but because HE can read it to ME. He'll tell me it's his turn to read and he'll point to the pictures and have me say what they are. Since it's easy to memorize and has a lot of visual cues, he actually ends up "reading" it to me exactly as it goes. He loves that! And he loves firefighters. So this book is a winner. We'll be purchasing it to add to our collection since I can see this book being a great one even as he actually starts to learn to read (for real) as well. Another recommended firefighter book is "Firefighters A to Z"

This 'picture word' book will be snapped up and read time and time again by your firefighter fanatic

Have you got a youngster who just rrrrrrs a fire truck `round and `round your living room floor half the afternoon? If so, you wouldn't be the first parent to witness someone with a passion for all things `fire,' including firefighters. Young children are often anxious to read, but cannot decode difficult words in a book and will ask you to read them the same book over and over again. In Firefighter, several picture words that substitute for the harder ones, will encourage and instill the love of reading in your child. The `picture words' included are ax, boots, fire, firefighter, fire truck, helmet, hose and ladder. One sentence is on the left-hand page. There is an accompanying full color, full page action photograph gracing the right-hand page. An example of a page has the sentence: "A (firefighter) hears the alarm." One that is slightly more complicated says: "A (firefighter) drives the (fire truck)." This is a marvelous `picture word' book that will be read time and time again. In the back of the book there is a brief section on "Words to Know," and additional recommended books, videos and web sites. If you purchase another fire truck to go along with this book to give as a gift, it will be a sure fire hit! Rrrrrr!
