Book Overview

Nina Christie was warned, but Hazy Duncan is even worse than she expected.

Nina's new home on Chincoteague Island would be perfect but for the blight of Hazy's perpetual rudeness. The island's other inhabitants welcome her back as a prodigal daughter of the community and the idyllic summer breezes soothe her wounded heart. All she wants is peace, quiet and her books. Hazy's experience with beautiful women like Nina is that they're easily bored...

Surprises

This book had colorful characters with good personalities and understandable flaws. Not feeling sorry for themselves or wallowing in their pasts and not all rich, sucessful people. Some were just average people making a living and trying to find happiness. At first I wasn't sure I liked everyone but by the end of the story I understood them all. The location had enough going on not to get boring, as I find that is the case in a lot of the books I've read lately. I liked that there was a range in age with the characters. This book is different than what I'm use to and I liked it a lot. The flow was great and kept my interest. The love scene was very nice though I thought the relationship needed to develop more before that. It seemed like just a physical attraction and a few things in common but by the end of the story I was rooting for them. A smooth read and worth the time. I will read more from Nat Burns.

LOVED IT !!!

Nat Burns does a fantastic job in her 1st lesbian non-fiction book. This is a great book for avid readers of lesbian romance. The story follows two main characters Nina and Hazy haw they meet, their attraction to one another and their internal voices exploring their lives at the moment and where they are with friends, ex's, locals and just life itself. Most any lesbian reading the story can relate to the emotion and inner voices of the main characters that Nat Burns clearly demonstrates in her book either personally, inner circle of friends and/or reflections of life vicariously through others. An easy read, take time to escape and enjoy, surprises at the end and one all lesbians would enjoy and maybe, just maybe like to do as well. I clearly enjoyed Nat's first book and can't wait for the next one to come out - soooon I hope!

Something different

I enjoyed this story very much. While it is a romance, it was different than most. What I loved most about it is the way the author let us see into Hazy's mind, yet still left us guessing about Hazy's living situation right up to the end. Since I read a lot of lesbian fiction, it is rare for an author to keep me in suspense right up to the end. Well done. I highly recommend this book. Please note that I only write 5 star reviews because I only review books that I would strongly recommend to my friends, stories that I consider excellent.

well written

Obviously, this author has a love of words. There are certain books that I read and then reread certain passages just because of the author's love of language. Two Weeks in August shows the author's skill in writing, she shows the beauty of the area the book is set in as well as the very different personalities of her main characters. I will be looking for her next novel.

Beautiful story

Nina Christie inherits her grandfather's house on Chincoteague Island. Whilst waiting for her new home to be renovated, she rents a cottage from Hazy Duncan. Nina has been warned about Hazy and her love them and leave them ways. Nina herself, is just recovering from a bad break up. Hazy has also been hurt in the past. The question is, can Nina and Hazy get past the past to love again? This is a most enjoyable first book from Nat Burns. It has a few unexpected twists and turns too. Just the right length for a cozy night in or a day at the beach. I will be looking out for Nat's next book.
