Book Overview

The young shari'a witch Brierley once thought that she was the last of her kind, powerful witches who lived in peace and harmony, using their powers for good. Only the women of her people had the gift and they ruled wisely and well. Her people had flourished for millennia, guided by the elemental beings who embodied the very forces of nature and who could tame the world.

But then the fierce Allemani people came from beyond the sea. Newly settled...

Wishing for the next

Diana Marcellas Twilight Rising, Serpent's Dream (along with the other books in the series) has to be one of my favorites. I love Marcellas rich writing style, she makes you really see the world she has created. The characters to all have their own personalities, gifts and flaws that give you a very good sense of who they are. I devoured this book and after reading it immediately when in search of an upcoming 4th one. Unfortunately I heard that Tor has put them indefinably on hold because they weren't selling well. I also read something about them having the rights to them so she couldn't publish it with some one else, thought I'm not as sure about that. I really hope I can see the 4th book on the shelves some time soon! One thing about this book that I didn't like so much was that not all that much seemed to happen. I kept waiting for that inevitable war to start, or some thing along those lines. So wish more had happened in this book, it seemed to be building up to the next one. I did love the main characters fierce protectiveness of her unborn child and adopted apprentice. This is one of those books that draws you in and keeps you there until the very end. I love the world this author has created and the glimpses of the past she gives us. It shows us how these two people sharing the same land came to were they are now. All in all this was a great book with rich texture, and wonderful language. I highly recommend it to any fantasy lovers!

An ending, please?

This is one of those rare series that stays on your mind even when you aren't reading. Anyone reading it should either have a lot of spare time or should be prepared to be carrying these books everywhere you go and reading them in between conversations, they're that amazing. Diana Marcellas has the gift of writing an intricate plot without making it too hard to remember, a problem in many science fiction/fantasy books. Like most people who have read ths series, I started "Mother Ocean, Daughter Sea" thinking this was a trilogy and good for an in and out read. As it turns out, although I literally could not put the books down, it has the same problem as all series do while they are being written: the reader is left sitting, wanting more, but unable to get it because it hasn't been written yet. I'm sure, however, that the fourth book (which will hopefully come soon) will be as good as the last three have been.

A wondeful yet, unfinished end

Diana's newest installment and doesnt lack in the intrigue and adventure she's given in the past two novels. You literally can't put this book down. I read it in 3 days. This book has one drawback in it and im still trying to figure this out. I thought the series was only to be a trilogy but it seems that, at least i hope, Diana has changed her mind. The tale is left off unfinished with many things unresolved like how Brierly is the Keystone....what happens at the Coming and how does Sarya take Brierly's pregnancy and all. I hope there is another one to come because if not, the ending is a total bust and if that is what happens, then why was the series worth reading to begin with?

Book 3

The fierce Allemanii people had come from beyond the sea. For awhile they lived in peace with those of the witch-bloods, the Shari'a. Sadly, the Allemanii came to fear the Shari'a, thus came genocide. The Allemanii decimated the Shari'a. Those few to survive, fled to hide in the shadows. The young witch, Brierley Mefell, once thought that she was the last of her king - powerful witches who lived in peace and harmony, using their powers for good. Brierley's talent lay in healing. She hid her powers from all, until she was compelled at last to use them openly to save Saray. Brierley was forced to flee for her life, taking with her Megan, the nine-year-old fire witch. Duke Melfallan helped the witches escape, sending along with them the liegeman Stefan Quinby. Brierley soon found other witches that were in hiding. Such are Ashdla and Will Toldane, twins who share the powers of forest witches. The Finding's time has come! ***** This is third in a series by author Diana Marcellas. The first two titles are "Mother Ocean, Daughter Sea" and "The Sea Lark's Song". However, unlike most series, if you enter this series with this third book you will NOT find yourself drowning at sea. The author cleverly inserts all a new reader needs to know within the first chapter or two. For those who have read the first two books, this helps refresh memory. Diana Marcellas has created a compelling and breathtaking saga that will keep readers coming back for more! ***** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.

Enter a richly woven universe you won't want to leave!

A lyrical and gifted storyteller, Marcellas has created a series to satisfy not only fantasy readers, but also those who enjoy historical fiction and romance. The medieval-type culture with the intricacies of High Lord politics (filled with courtiers and castellans, spies and knights) will fascinate as much as the fully-realized magical world of the sahari'a witches and the Four--the spirit dragons who guide them. You will come to care deeply for the many complex characters among the shari'a and the Allemanii, and struggle with them as they face love and hatred, fear and prejudice, honor and betrayal, compassion and hope. Read (and re-read) all 3 books in this amazing series--Mother Ocean, Daughter Sea, The Sea Lark's Song, and now Twilight Rising, Serpent's Dream--and then wait with me eagerly, anxiously and impatiently, for the next volume!
